The History of ProvenceThere are very few other locations in Europe that could ever begin to match the breath-taking beauty that can be found in Provence. Of course, this French region has come a long way to be where it is today. Nowdays tourists enjoy the Mediterranean sea, blue skies, French lavender and beautiful villages, but Provence has not always been that way. Artefacts have been found throughout the Provence region that suggests that pre-historic man was highly prevalent here. Ancient settlements have been uncovered in large numbers and Provence can boast the fact that it has managed to teach us much of what we know about our early Palaeolithic and Neolithic beginnings. Much later on, Provence was a part of the Roman empire and again remnants of this historic past can be found across the area. This poor region certainly seems as though it has been pulled in many different directions over the millennia. Today, Provence is pretty much as French as you could ever get. Lying on the Riviera Coast, the climate here is just about as hospitable as you will ever find and this helps you to understand how early man would have recognised such favourable conditions and decided to call the region their home. | HomeHistory Will Always Be RelevantHistory is all Around usHistory is UniqueA Brief History of SkiingThe History of Rome and SicilyThe Population of RomeHistoric Vacation Places in ItalyA Brief History of RomeMan and His Amazing Flying MachinesHotels in Rome Bring on NostalgiaLearning History is FunThe History of ProvenceThe Roman RenaissanceUsed Cars History CheckThe Story of Tattoo HistoryHow Las Vegas Became the Entertainment Capital of the WorldExpress Furniture Reviews Now Available OnlineThe irresistible character of RomansWe Live in a World Full of HistoryHistory Divides Us AllWhy History is so ImportantFriend or Foe? |
